Rugby Blitz September 27th 2024
A tag rugby blitz was held on September 27th in Clonakilty Rugby Club for 1st-6th class.
The girls played Knockskeagh, Gaelscoil Cloch na Coillte, Kilmeen and Lisavaird in small sided games.

Rugby Training September and October 2024
We are so lucky to have tag rugby training in our school. Finbarr and his team of transition years take each class for a block of sessions.
Camogie Blitz September 2024
A group of 13 girls from 5th and 6th class took part in a camogie blitz on Monday 23rd September.
The girls played St Joseph's GNS, Skibbereen, Barryroe NS and Enniskeane NS.
The girls played excellently in all three games and were unlucky to lose two games by one goal and another by only one point. They showed great heart, determination and skills in the three games.

Athletics September 2024
We are delighted to be part of an Athletics Ireland initiative where 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th practise running, throwing and catching skills.

Swimming September 2024
Our swimming lessons have started back in the Clonakilty Park Leisure Centre. We are very lucky to have a great facility n our town.
Each class from 1st -6th benefit from a 4 week course of swimming lessons.

Clonakilty Parish Sports 2024
28 girls from Senior Infants to 6th class took part in the annual Clonakilty Parish Sports on 12th June in Ahamilla.
The girls compted against pupils from Gaelscoil Mhichíl Uí Choileáin, Knockskeagh NS, Darrara NS and Kilgarriffe NS.
Scoil na mBuachaillí also competed in the boys section.
The girls competed in straight sprints and relays.
They all ran so well on the day and we are very proud of them!

Thank you to the members of Clonakilty Road Runners Club who officiated and also to Clonakilty Credit Union and Sinéad McCarthy who sponsored the trophies.

We had a fantastic Sports Day on June 4th.
We began with sprint heats for each class and then ran off the finals. Everyone ran their best and showed great determination!
Everyone enjoyed the station activities which included sponge races, tunnel relays, an obstacle course, parachute games, dress up relay, egg and spoon races, sack races and fun relay races.
To finish up, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th took part in a mixed relay competition.
A big thank you to our Parent's Association who organised ice creams to be delivered to the school.
Also, we are so lucky to have the use of Clonakilty Sports Complex on days like Sports Day.

Bike Week 2024
A big thank you to Ulick, a cycling instructor, who visited the school and did some cycling sessions with Juniors, Seniors and 1st Class.
The girls loved all the fun activities and improved their cycling skills.

Sciath na Scol 2024
5th and 6th class took part in the Sciath na Scol gaelic football qualifiers in Ahamilla on 17th May.
The girls had a great win over Presentation Primary, Bandon by just two points in their first game.
Unfortunately, they had to give way to a better Scoil Naomh Abán side and also to Newcestown N.S. in a close game.
Great skills, teamwork and determination were on show on the day.

Schools Rowing Regatta
Well done to the girls from 5th and 6th class who took part in The Southern Star Primary Schools Rowing Regatta on 12th May in Rosscarbery.

5th and 6th Class Sciath na Scol Training
5th and 6th class are taking part in a block of gaelic football training for the upcoming Sciath na Scol matches which will be held in mid May.

5th and 6th Class Soccer Tournament
5th and 6th class took part in a soccer tournament on 2nd May in the Clonakilty Astro Turf. We are so lucky to have the use of this wonderful facility right on our doorstep.

4th Class Gaelic Football Blitz
Well done to our 4th class girls who took part in a gaelic football blitz which was held in Super Valu Páirc Uí Chaoimh on April 11th.
The girls played Ballingeary, St Joseph's Girls, Skibbereen, Ardfield and Glanmire.
Great determination, skills and teamwork were on show.
It was a great opportunity for girls who don't play with a club to try out the game.

Indoor Gaelic Football
Our 4th class girls enjoyed an indoor Gaelic football blitz on the 23rd January in Ballinacarriga GAA hall.
This was a non competitive blitz which gave many girls an opportunity to try out football in an indoor setting.
Great skills and teamwork were on view.

Soccer Shield Winner!
Huge congratulations to our 6th class pupil Katelyn Ponton who won the West Cork Schoolgirls Shield with her club, Lyre Rovers.
They beat Castlelack 1-0 in the final.

Indoor Camogie Competition
15 girls from 4th class took part in a non competitive indoor camogie competition in Ballinacarriga in January 2024.
They played teams from Kilbrittain N.S., Timoleauge N.S., Knockskeagh N.S. and Ahiohill N.S.
Great skills and determination were on show during all the games.

Orienteering
5th class had a great day out in Tramore Valley Park, Cork for an introductory orienteering event. The girls got a taste for the skills of orienteering and will definitely be seeking out another event in the not too distant future!

After a great perfomance, the girls were unlucky to come out on the losing side by a single point.
The girls played Ballinacarriga N.S. in a shield final. This was a very exciting game which ended up going to extra time.
Unfortunately, Ballinacarriga ended up winning after a very sporting game.

European Week of Sport 2023
European Week of Sport was held on September 25th-29th.
Table Tennis Take Over Day was one of the highlights along with 6th Class Take on the Staff in Tug of War!
Other enjoyable activities took place including Clothes Peg Relays and Wacky Waiter Relays.

Rugby Blitz
On Thursday 26th September, girls from second to sixth class participated in an Inter-Schools Blitz in Clonakilty Rugby Club. The girls got to enjoy tip rugby and tag rugby.
The girls played Kilmeen, Knockskeagh, Clogagh and Gaelscoil Cloch na Coillte.
The girls got to walk on the extended greenway so had a very active day overall!

A Sciath na Scol hurling/camogie blitz took place in Ahamilla on September 21st. This was a fun, non competitive blitz which was organised by Diarmuid Duggan, Enniskeane NS and Alan Foley, Skibbereen Boys NS.
A group of 4th, 5th and 6th classes represented our school very well. The girls played Knockskeagh, Coppeen, Enniskeane and Gaelscoil Cloch na Coillte.

Hockey Team Visit
Members from Clonakilty Hockey Club visited St. Joseph's along with trophies that they won during the year.
Some of the players are past pupils of the school.
Lisa Kemp explained the game of hockey to the girls and told the girls all about their successes over the last few months.

We held our annual Sports Day on Tuesday 6th June in the astro turf. Our thanks to Clonakilty Sports Complex for their continued support to us in St. Joseph's...it is such a great facility to have on our doorstep.
We began the day with sprints, followed by fun circuits and finished off with very competitive relays.
Refreshments in the form of ice cream were well needed as it was so hot! Thank you to our wonderful Parent's Association for funding these.

Sciath na Scol Football
Congratulations to our 5th and 6th Sciath na Scol Football team. They have qualified for the final which will take place in Ahamilla on June 8th 2023.

Gymnastics
Aoife McAuley from Clonakilty Gymnastics Club is an excellent addition to sports in our school.
She is doing a four week block of gymnastics for each pupil in the school in May 2023. We love this!
