MUSIC IN SCHOOL
Visit from Clonakilty Brass Band
Ger Condon and the Clonakilty Brass Band came to visit our school yesterday to promote lessons in brass band instruments. Girls from 3rd, 4th and 5th class were very lucky to be treated to a performance by the brass band, some of whom are past pupils of St Joseph's.
Music lessons have started...
We are delighted to welcome back Antje Guest (flute teacher), Geertien O' Leary (violin teacher) and Kay O' Flynn (guitar teacher) again this year. As you know we have a bank of violins and flutes that we loan to pupils to see if they like playing the instrument first before purchasing their own violins / flutes. This has worked very successfully and has given many children the opportunity to experience playing these instruments. Hopefully we will get our junior orchestra up and running again this year !
100 Voices Children's Choir
Last January I was contacted by Karen O Regan (Class teacher in Scoil na mBuachailli) and asked if I would be interested in joining our two choirs together to form one choir and so 100 Voices Children's Choir was created. Our aim was to recreate our experiences in "Sing Out Loud" where one school would learn the harmony and the other the tune and then we would combine both groups. Having decided on our song list, we then set about teaching the 12 songs to the children and practiced in both St Josephs and Scoil na mBuachailli. This proved to be a very enjoyable and rewarding venture for both teachers and children and culminated in our concert on Wednesday 29th May in Clonakilty Parish Church.
A big thanks to the staff of St Joseph's who have supported this project from the beginning especially Mrs Carol Anne O' Brien (Choreographer) and Mrs Mary Daly (MC on the night). This would not have been possible without the support of our parents. Through donations on the night, we raised €1605 for our local Clonakilty Community Youth Centre.

Feis Maitiu 2018
For the first time our girls performed in the Primary Unison choirs category of Feis Maitiu this year. Because of the severe weather in March, our competition was cancelled but we were delighted to thatit took place place on Thursday April 13th instead. The Feis choir performed "Lord of the Dance" and "LIsten to the Rain" and were delighted when they were awarded FIRST PRIZE on the day! They brought home the perpetual trophy and comemorative medal! A big thank you to Ms Joanne Walsh for all her help with the Feis Maitiu choir and to Ms. Annabelle Adams who will be accompanying us on the day. We recorded both songs at rehearsal during the week so click on the video to enjoy!
