European Week of Sport 2024
We ran a very successful European Week of Sport from 23rd - 27th September 2024.
5th and 6th took part in a Relay Take Over on the astro which was great fun!
Our fantastic Active School Committee organised fun stations for 1st and 2nd class in the yard.

Run Around Europe 2024
We are taking part in the Run Around Europe challenge in March 2024.
Each class runs around our school yard each day in order to visit some European capitals.
We all love this running initiative.

Olympic Movement Breaks
We are participating in the Olympic Movement Breaks initiative which is running from 13th November to 8th December.
This challenge is designed as a whole-school which emphasises participation, inclusion and FUN!

Camogie Blitz
A Sciath na Scol hurling/camogie blitz took place in Ahamilla on September 21st. This was a fun, non competitive blitz which was organised by Diarmuid Duggan, Enniskeane NS and Alan Foley, Skibbereen Boys NS.
A group of 4th, 5th and 6th classes represented our school very well. The girls played Knockskeagh, Coppeen, Enniskeane and Gaelscoil Cloch na Coillte.

European Week of Sport 2023
European Week of Sport was held on September 25th-29th.
Table Tennis Take Over Day was one of the highlights along with 6th Class Take on the Staff in Tug of War!
Other enjoyable activities took place including Clothes Peg Relays and Wacky Waiter Relays.
Many thanks to our Active School Committee and Sixth Class who helped to organise all the activities.

2021/2022
We are an Active Class!
We began our initiative to decrease sedentary time during the school day in February and March 2022.
Each class decided on 3 activities that they would like to do during transitions between lessons.
The girls love doing these and have more energy and are more focused after partaking in them.
The activities include go noodle videos, cardio desk drumming, Joe Wicks workout videos, games outside in the yard and lots of other fun activities.

SKIP INTO SPRING 2022
We had a very enjoyable day on the first of February when we held our 'Skip into Spring' Activity Day.
Our Active School Committee along with great help from 5th class pupils organised and ran station activities for each class from Juniors to Sixth.
It was a huge success and a wonderful start to Spring. We were even blessed with beautiful Spring weather!

Christmas Activities 2021
We all got into the Christmas mood on Friday 17th December. All the girls were decked out in their Christmas jumpers and hats.
Our Active School Committee led the school with their own dances to Christmas favourites 'Jingle Bell Rock' and 'All I Want for Christmas Is You'!

New Playground Equipment
The girls are delighted with the addition of new hoops which can be played with during breaktime.
Skipping ropes are now available to all classes also.

Active Break Challenge
Each class took part in the Active Break Challenge which ran for four weeks from November 15th-December 10th.
Everyone was encouraged to take an active break during lessons at least once a day.
Activities included go noodle dances, yoga, skipping, running/walking in the yard and lots of other games and fun activities.
Everyone benefited from the break and returned to their school work with increased energy and concentration.

Station Activities November 2021
We had great fun on the 16th November when our wonderful Active School Committee and some pupils from 6th class organised and ran activity stations for 1st class.
Impressive movement skills such as running, hopping, skipping, jumping, throwing, catching and striking were all on show.

Halloween Parade and Fun Games 2021
Each class participated in a Halloween walk/parade around the school yard.
There were some very spooky and inventive costumes on show.
The student council organised some fun games for each class.
It was a great way to begin our mid term break!

European School Sports Day 2021
We were delighted to take part in 'European Sports Day' in September 2021.
To celebrate, the Active School Committee along with some very willing 6th class girls, set up and organised station activities for the Junior and Senior Infants.
1st - 6th class took part in lots of different activities on the astro turf and tennis courts.
We had a great day and were blessed with good weather.
A huge thank you to Clonakilty Sports Complex who allowed use to use their fantastic facilities. We are so grateful to have a wonderful sporting facility on our doorstep.

Wake Up and Shake Up!
We love Wake up and Shake Up here in St Joseph's.
It takes place every Wednesday morning.

Getting Active in the Classroom!
We love getting active in between lessons in the classroom. We do lots of different activities to get our bodies moving and our minds ready for learning!

Freestyle Fridays are a firm favourite of everyone in St Joseph's!
Every Friday, music is played at break time. It puts everyone in a good mood. There are always great dance moves on show!

A big thank you to our Parents Association who purchased an outdoor table tennis table.
ACTIVE SCHOOL WALKWAY!
Cycle Skills Training!
The girls in 2nd, 3rd and 4th classes are taking part in a cycling skills training course for five weeks.
The course is aligned to SPROCKET ROCKET, Cycling Ireland's fun skills cycling programme.
The programme is aimed at:

- Teaching children the four FUNdamental cycling skills of Balance, Pedalling, Braking and Cornering.
- Providing a strong cycling skill foundation for young riders.
- Skill development, including general cycling skills which will lay the foundation for more advanced learning of specific cycling skills in the future.
- Fostering enjoyment and 'want' of participation.
- Teaching rider's fair play and rules at their level, rather than promoting a win at all cost attitude.
The Daily Mile!
Each class are now participating in the Daily Mile. The girls walk/jog/run/skip and side step their way to their Daily Mile!
A mile is the equivalent to 15 laps of the big yard!
The Daily Mile is simple and free and gets children out of the classroom for fifteen minutes every day to run or jog, at their own pace, with their classmates, making them fitter, healthier, and more able to concentrate in the classroom.

Playground Markings!
The girls are delighted with the new playground markings which were put down in February 2019.
Lots of new games and plenty of fun can be seen on the yard at small break and big break each day!

Rainy Days
Unfortunately, at times, we are unable to go outside for break on rainy days.
Instead, each class enjoys dancing to Go Noodle.
The girls really benefit from getting up out of their seats and moving!

60 Minutes Physical Activity Challenge
The girls in the senior classes have taken part in the 60 minutes Physical Activity Challenge once per term.
The girls are learning that we need to get 60 minutes of Physical Activity each day.
There are so many benefits including feeling energised and happier.

Playground Leaders
Our 5th class pupils act as playground leaders during breaktime once a week. They devise games at stations for the junior classes.
Active Break
All classes are taking part in the Active Break in the classroom initiative which is running for four weeks from November 19th -December 14th 2018.
Each class aims to take at least one active break each day in between lessons. It can be a running, dance or an active break.
Each class records their activities on the poster in their classroom.

Halloween Stations were great fun!
The Active School Committee and 6th class organised fun stations at Halloween for Juniors, Seniors, 1st and Second. Activities included Spooky Freeze, dodge the tennis balls, obstacle course, snatch the bacon, skipping, trick or treat and hula hooping.
Ultimate Frisbee Workshops
Girls in 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th were allowed the opportunity to take part in Ultimate Frisbee June. David O'Shea showed the girls how to throw and catch the frisbee. They played a game of possession at the end to show off their newly learned skills!
Run around Europe Challenge
All classes have particpated in the Run around Europe challenge. This involved running 1km a day for four weeks.
Teachers vs Sixth Class in Rounders
This competition (friendly!) was organised in conjunction with European Week of Sport 2018.
Wake Up and Shake Up!
The Active School Committee lead the whole school in Wake Up and Shake Up on Wedneday mornings. The committee use songs like Cha Cha Slide, Macarena and Tabata songs to get the whole school moving!
Super Troopers!
Each class are encouraged to take part in the Super Troopers active homework initiative which is run by Laya Healthcare.
Pupils from Seniors and Third demonstrate the new activities at assembly each month.
PE and Maths!
The girls in St Joseph's regularly use the school grounds during maths trails. The girls love being outside during maths class!

Freestyle Fridays!
Every Friday, the Active School Committee organise music to be played outside during small break. Everyone can freestyle to the music including the teachers!
